Cosmetic Standards and Policies

The Reclaimed Tree Cosmetic Standards and Policies

At The Reclaimed Tree, we celebrate the artistry and authenticity of handcrafted, solid wood furniture. Every piece is a testament to our dedication to quality and uniqueness. In this section, you’ll find our cosmetic standards and important policies that guide our process and set expectations for your one-of-a-kind piece.

Wood and Stain Variations

  • Unique Stain Behavior: Wood is unpredictable—each board absorbs stain differently, resulting in subtle color variations. While we will use the requested stain or paint color, we cannot guarantee an exact match to photos or past projects.

  • Custom Stain Policy: If you require a custom stain, you must provide it and specify the type of wood to be used. While we will execute your request to the best of our ability, reworking stain results to achieve exact preferences is not possible due to wood's natural properties.

*Why isn’t the color 100% consistent like mass-produced furniture?
Mass-produced furniture often uses subpar wood coated with veneers or laminates to achieve uniformity. In contrast, we honor the organic individuality of solid wood, which accepts finishes differently. The lighting in your home may also influence how the color appears.

General Variations in Wood furniture

  • Expect natural characteristics such as open knots, visible brush strokes, micro-imperfections, and texture variations.

  • Measurements may vary by up to 1 inch due to the custom nature of our builds.

  • These features celebrate the authenticity of custom handcrafted furniture.

Solid Wood Characterisitcs

  • Natural Variations: Each piece of furniture will display its own grain pattern, texture, and color. Original character marks, such as sawmill marks, knots /cracks, dents may be present, emphasizing the story of the reclaimed materials. These are not defects but natural elements of real wood furniture.

  • Living Wood: Solid wood expands and contracts with changes in temperature and humidity. This movement may result in slight shifts, such as open joint lines, which do NOT affect the structural integrity of your piece. We recommend maintaining a stable environment to minimize movement and protect your furniture’s beauty.

Wood Movement

  • Seasonal Changes: Temperature and humidity fluctuations may cause gaps between boards to widen over time. This natural movement enhances the unique beauty of solid wood and does not compromise structural integrity.

  • Environmental Recommendations: To minimize movement, maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels in your space. Promptly wipe away any excess moisture to protect your furniture.

Care and Maintenance

  • Proper care ensures your furniture’s longevity:

  • Follow the care instructions provided upon delivery.

  • Use only recommended cleaning products to avoid damage to the finish.

  • Be mindful of wear and tear—scuffs, scratches, and drying can occur without proper maintenance.

  • We are not responsible for damages caused by improper cleaning or maintenance.
